Military Bio:

Hubert Davis was born in Tyus (Carrol county,) Georgia on September 3, 1920, he is a graduate of Central Hatchee high school and Piedmont College (cum laude).

He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on December 1942 and was assigned to the 547th Squadron, of the 384th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, flying tail gunner on a B-17 out of Grafton Underwood, England he was shot down on a raid over Schweinfort, Germany, on April 13,1944, and was placed in solitary confinement at Dulag Luft in Frankfort, Germany for 28 days. He was then placed in a permanent prisoner of war camp, Stalag 17-B in Krems, Austria. After a 280 miles in April 1945, he was liberated May 3, 1945, by the 13th Armored Division of the 3rd Army.

He is past commander of the West Alabama Chapter, and Past Commander of the Department of Alabama American Ex-POWs, Past Commander of Stalag 17-B, a National Organization of American former Prisoners Of War. Mr. Davis served 8 terms as National Judge Advocate of the American Ex-Prisoners Of War Organization. He is a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians and has served 8 years on the Alabama Governor's POW advisory commission, 4 years as adjutant/treasurer and 4 years as chairman. As of this writing Dec. 1998, Hubert is serving his second term on the Alabama department of veterans affairs board of directors.
Mr. Davis is also an accredited national service officer for the American Ex-prisoners Of War.

Hubert married the former Ida Hallford after the war and they now have two daughters, Wanda Devereaux and Donna Hill. They have one grand daughter, Jennifer Devereaux Segers and one grandson Jeffry Hill. They continue to be active in all Veterans affairs to this day.



My Message to Future Generations:

Hubie Davis passed away at 2:45 p.m. on the 22nd of August. His family was with him. He will be burried at Andersonville with full honors. Details will be posted when we receive the information. His daughter, Wanda Devereaux will be in touch with us.
